Dr. Haider Abdel Shafi Center for Culture and Development and the University of Palestine commemorated the fifteenth anniversary of the death of the great national leader Dr. Haider Abdel Shafi in Al Quds Hall in the university in Gaza City.
The ceremony began with a speech by Dr. Mahmoud Al-Ajrami, Vice President for Academic Affairs, in which he emphasized the merits Dr. Abdel Shafi and his continuous work to achieve democracy, collective leadership and periodic elections for a pluralistic, democratic Palestinian system that respects public freedoms and preserves the dignity of citizens.
He praised the doctor’s qualities with regard to integrity, transparency and adherence to the national constants.
While Mr. Mohsen Abu Ramadan, Director of the Dr. Haider Abdel Shafi Center for Culture and Development, said that this occasion aims to glorify and appreciate the personality of Dr. Abdel Shafi, as well as to inspire his career based on the values and principles of national unity and social justice. He reviewed the path of the doctor on multiple levels, stressing that he was keen on the public interest, national unity, achieving democratic transformation and good governance victorious for the poor and marginalized. Also, Dr. Abdel Shafi was highlighted on young generation and the importance of their rights.
On the other hand, A. Salah Abdel Shafi, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Center and a representative of the family, said in a recorded video that this ceremony reflects the vital relationship between the university and civil society organizations, stressing the importance of partnership between them to enhance the cognitive and cultural empowerment among students.
At the end of the ceremony, a short film was shown about the life of Dr. Haider Abdel Shafi and his national and democratic role.
